Highway 38 Road Work AheadA $6.7 million road reconstruction project will begin Monday on Highway 38 from Golf Ave. to Memorial Drive, which includes putting in two roundabouts.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will close the northbound lane, but the southbound lane will be open. Northbound traffic will use the following detour: northbound Memorial Drive westbound Rapids Drive to Highway 38. The same route going south will be used when the southbound lanes are closed.

Business and pedestrians will continue to have access to the area through construction.

When completed, the road will continue to be a single lane road in each direction and have a bicycle lane. However, two roundabouts will be constructed at Northwestern Ave. and High/Albert St, and Northwestern Ave. and Spring/West St. The project also includes new pavement markings, signage, a traffic signal at High St., and handicapped-accessible curb ramps.

The project fixes the irregular configuration. Built in 1955, the road hasn’t been rehabilitated since 1985. The project is expected to be complete by the fall.
