Joseph Kane, 58, passed away unexpectedly, Monday at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center. He was born in Racine, December 19, 1957, son of George and Amelia “Millie” (Nee: Kane) Checki.
Joseph graduated from St. Catherine’s High School, Class of 1976. Furthering his education he graduated Summa Cum Laude from UW-Parkside and earned his Master’s degree in education at Viterbo University. On June 20, 1998 in Racine he was united in marriage to Jodi B. Goodell. He was an educator with the Racine Unified School District for eighteen years, lastly with Walden High School and previously at Jerstad-Agerholm Middle School. A literary scholar, Joe was a member of both the Eugene O’Neill Society and the Arthur Miller Society.
Over the past 18 years, Joe attended various conferences around the country for these organizations. He contributed to a scholarly book on Arthur Miller and he was a regular contributor to the The Arthur Miller Journal. Joe was also a trivia buff and in 2002 he was a contestant on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of eighteen years, Jodi; his sisters, Susan Gerlach of Racine, Sara Checki of Oak Creek; his father, George Checki of Racine; his sisters-in-law, Deborah (Ronald) Pittman of Hudson, Leslie (Dwight) Stuart, Paula Goodell, all of Menomonie, Nikki (Michael) Roddis of Naples, FL; nieces, Nicole (Cameron) Mandli of West Allis, Sara Koshen (Mark Cress) of Racine; great nieces, Emmalee Mandli, Autumn Cress; many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Sunday at the Maresh-Meredith Funeral Home, 803 Main St. Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 1 p.m. until time of service at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home Private entombment will be held at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Memorials to the American Cancer Society have been suggested.
