Highway V property owner Heather Cramer along with more than 20 of her fellow residents held a press conference Monday before the Mount Pleasant board meeting to talk about how proposed sewer/water assessments are having an impact on their lives.

Cramer and her husband, Matt, have long planned for her to be a stay-at-home mom, but she says the assessment against her property will make that impossible.

After taking care of village business – including a rezone of land for Willkomm’s gas station/car wash/restaurant development at Highway 31 and Spring Street – Engineer Sarah Nunn and village Attorney Elaine Ekes made a presentation to a crowd of nearly 100 residents about how the assessments were calculated, the 20-year deferral, the 10-year period following over which property owners will have to pay the assessment, and what type of triggering event would make the assessment active.
