When Sturtevant’s tax incremental financing district closes in June, village leaders anticipate a lump sum payment of around $1.3 million in addition to lowering property taxes by about 25 percent.
Based on a preliminary “wish list” trustees discussed at a committee meeting earlier this month, we put 
together a list and asked for your thoughts on how the village should spend that $1.3 million.
Here’s your top three:
- 30 percent say the village should expand, improve and maintain parks
- 24 percent say they like the idea of a program to help attract small and medium-sized businesses
- 18 percent said they want the village to hire more police officers and increase their salaries to make them more commensurate with neighboring communities
Other choices included re-starting the Sturtevant recreation program; creating an historic district with appropriate signage; bringing Village Hall into the 21st century; and developing a community development loan program to help homeowners with improvement projects.
