A man, who is described as mentally challenged, suffered injuries after another man tried to rob him at gun point when he refused to give him what he wanted, according to a criminal complaint.
Michael Stoner, 33, of Racine, was charged by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office with armed robbery with use of force. If convicted, Stoner faces up to 40 years in prison and/or fines up to $100,000.
According to the criminal complaint, Stoner confronted a man who has mental health issues and demanded he give him his beer and cash at 4:50 p.m. March 20 at an apartment in the 950 block of Washington Ave. When the man refused to comply with Stoner’s demands, he cut the man in the face with a kitchen knife. Stoner also reportedly took the man’s cell phone.
The man had cuts on his right cheek and nose.
Racine Police formed a photo lineup of possible suspects and the man was able to identify him, but he knew Stoner under a different name. Investigators, however, were able to eventually link Stoner to the case.
Stoner is being held at the Racine County Jail on a $20,000 cash bond. A preliminary hearing has been set for 8:30 a.m. April 16 in front of Racine County Court Commissioner Alice Rudebusch.
