Deputies with the Racine County Sheriff’s Office say a 40-year-old man from Lake Geneva was injured in a single car accident in Pritchard Park after he smoked cocaine.

Keith Acker was charged Friday with felony cocaine possession and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted, he faces up to 3 years, nine months in jail and/or up to $10,500 in fines. Because Acker has previous drug convictions, he could get extra time tacked onto any sentence he might receive.

According to the criminal complaint, a witness on Thursday told deputies they were in the car with Acker when it appeared he had a seizure while he was behind the wheel and driving toward the exit of Pritchard Park. Instead of taking the drive to exit onto Ohio Street, Acker instead drove into the park’s sign. The witness estimated they were only going about five miles per hour.

Deputies say a second witness corroborated the story, and Acker was transported to Wheaton Franciscan St. Mary’s for treatment. The driver’s door of the car was left open and deputies saw on the floor in plain sight a spoon with burnt marks on the back and a substance that tested positive for cocaine. A subsequent search of vehicle turned up a glass tube commonly used to smoke crack cocaine, protective covers for needles and syringes, and the corner of a plastic baggie.

Acker remains in the Racine County Jail on a $500 cash bond. He will next be in court April 20 for his preliminary hearing.
