Racine police say a 27-year-old man is facing more than 50 years in prison after he supplied the heroin on which a friend overdosed over the weekend.
Cory Wirt was charged Tuesday in Racine County Circuit Court with one felony count each of the 
following:
- First degree recklessly endangering safety
- Manufacture/delivery of heroin
- Possession of heroin with the intent to deliver
- Possession of cocaine with the intent to deliver
- Maintaining a drug trafficking place
He was also charged with a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted, Wirt faces up to 53 years, nine months in prison and/or up to $110,500 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called early Sunday morning for a report of a drug overdose. When officers arrived on scene, they were told the victim had been transported to Wheaton Franciscan and they were awake because someone had administered Narcan.
Investigators say Wirt told them he often buys drugs and allows people to come over and use them with him. He said he and another man pooled their money to buy the heroin and after using it, the other man’s eyes rolled back in his head. Wirt said he called 911 and administered the Narcan.
During questioning, Wirt admitted to taking outside the heroin and Narcan needles along with anything related to drugs, the complaint reads. Investigators obtained a search warrant for Wirt’s home and found 4.7 grams of cocaine with a street value of about $470 and 2.9 grams of heroin with a street value of $580. Officers also found a 9mm handgun and a kit with items commonly associated with heroin use.
Wirt remains in the Racine County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond and is ordered to not use or possess any controlled substances. He must also submit to random drug tests. Wirt will next be in court April 27 for his preliminary hearing.
