Bob Wittke was sworn in last week. The Racine Unified Board of Education officially took their seats Monday night after being sworn in at the district’s administrative offices on Mt. Pleasant Street. This is the first board seated after the state Legislature required the district re-organize into nine districts.

Residents in the audience are reported to have given the new board members a standing ovation.

Board member Julie McKenna said that Robert Wittke from District No. 9 had plans to be out of town so he was sworn in prior to tonight’s meeting. This was the last night the board could take their oaths of office, she added.

Committee and commission assignments are expected next week. A new president of the board will also be decided.
