fire9No one was injured in a kitchen fire that happened at H & H Meats and Catering, 3710 Meachem Rd., early Monday morning.

An employee at Georgetown Market, a business adjacent to H&H Meats and Catering, noticed that smoke was billowing out of the business and called for help. When firefighters arrived they saw smoking coming from the outside of and throughout the building. Finding a fire in the kitchen, the firefighters were able to put out the fire. The smoke caused damage throughout the building.

Officials notified the building owner, Edward Trudeau, and H & H Meats and Catering owner, Richard Hubeler, of what had happened to the building. The estimated loss is $35,000.

Racine Health Department officials are working with Hubeler and Trudeau to hopefully get the business opened back up later this week. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but is still under investigation.
