Marvin Taylor

A Chicago man was charged this week in the March 2015 theft of a car left running at a Mount Pleasant gas station.

Marvin E. Taylor, 50, is charged with two counts of operating a motor vehicle with the owner’s consent, for an early morning incident in Mount Pleasant on March 10, 2015.

According to court records, a woman called police saying she had left her Honda Accord running at the Kwik Trip gas station, 943 S. East Frontage Road, in Mount Pleasant, while she went inside. When she came out, her car was gone.

Surveillance footage showed a man – later identified as Taylor – exiting a 2001 Honda Civic and getting into the Accord, then driving off. The Civic abandoned in the parking lot had been reported stolen out of Chicago.

Chicago police arrested Taylor driving the Accord in Illinois. He fled from police, causing two personal injury crashes on the roads as he fled. The stolen vehicle was totaled in the crashes, according to court records.

Taylor’s bond was set Tuesday at $500 cash. He is due in court May 19 for a preliminary hearing.
