Sister Dolores Chartrand, O.P., 87, passed away at Lakeshore Manor, Racine, on Tuesday.
Dolores Helen was born Oct. 2, 1928 to Alfred F. and Anna (nee: Schweiger) Chartrand in Richmond, MI. On Aug. Â 28, 1945 she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1946 she was given the religious name Sister Gervase. She professed her first vows in 1948 and her final vows in 1954. In 1968 she returned to using her baptismal name, Dolores.
Sister Dolores spent many years in service to others in food service, care for the elderly and as a senior companion. She began her ministry in 1948 at St. Catherine Convent, Racine. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were St. Francis Xavier, Merrill; ; and St. Benedict, Milwaukee. She also served in New Mexico, Illinois and Michigan. After moving to Siena Center she became a Senior Companion Volunteer. In May 2016 she moved to Lakeshore Manor, Racine.
Sister Dolores is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her brothers Alvin (Marion) and Donald; her sister Anne Marie Miller; nieces and nephews. She was predceeded in death by her parents; her infant brother Kenneth; brother-in-law James Miller and sister-in-law Ina Chartrand.
Visitation will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Friday  beginning at 9 a.m. with a Remembering Service at 9:30 a.m. This will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.
