A one-year-old boy suffered severe trauma to his head after a family dog bit him at 7 p.m. Thursday at a residence in the 2500 block of Jerome Boulevard.
The boy was taken to the emergency room at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare — All Saints initially, but then transported by a Flight For Life helicopter to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, according to a press release by the Racine Police Department.
The boy’s grandfather told police that the dog, a six-year-old American Bulldog Boxer, bit the baby in the face and head when he was on the floor playing. The man had to “pry the family dog off of the child’s head,” the press release reads.

The family will receive citations for not having the dog vaccinated and not having it licensed.
