Sister Lois VanderbekeSister Lois Vanderbeke, O.P., 80, passed away at Lakeshore Manor, Racine, WI on Saturday, June 4, 2016.

Lois Marie was born May 7, 1936 to Joseph A. and Leontine (nee: Blomme) Vanderbeke in Detroit, MI. On August 25, 1955 she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1956 she was given the religious name Sister Mary Mark. She professed her first vows in 1958 and her final vows in 1964. In 1968 she returned to using her baptismal name, Lois.

Sister Lois spent many years in service to others in teaching and financial administration. She began her ministry in 1958 at St. Mary, Racine. Other places where she served in Racine were St. Catherine High School and Dominican College/College of Racine. From 1975 to 1998 she served as the Director of Finance for the Racine Dominicans. She then became a financial consultant and financial planner, the coordinator of the sponsorship office and also the administrator the Racine Dominican Mission Fund.  In February 2016 she became a resident at Lakeshore Manor, Racine, WI.

Sister Lois is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her sisters Sharon (John) Paul, Doreen (Roberto) Arevalo and Margaret (David) La Rose; her sister-in-law Claudia Vanderbeke; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and her brother Gerald Vanderbeke.

Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. with a Remembering Service at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. on Friday in the Siena Center Chapel. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.
