Holy Cross Cemetery MausoleumHoly Cross Cemetery, 5600 Holy Cross Rd., will start construction on a 24-foot by 32-foot mausoleum.
Mark Mattes, of Mattes & Designers LLC, told the plan commission last month that the granite building will be a golden brown with gold flakes in it.
“The cemetery has been looking at this project for five years now,” Mattes said. “They’ve come to a point where they are out of inventory to support the needs of their customers.”
The building, which received state approval, is being built just south of the existing mausoleum complex.
The project will allow the cemetery to bury people in single deep burials or “companion style,” which is where the spaces are double deep to accommodate two caskets. On both ends of the building will be niches for urns. It also has space for double-wide crypts.
Cemetery officials also plan on building a second mausoleum down the road.
“If we get overwhelmed with people wanting to ‘move in,’ we can certainly accommodate it,” he said.
The project is expected to be completed by winter.
