Congratulations are in order for local band Well Known Strangers! They’ve been chosen as one of the local bands to play Summerfest this year, and they have a shot at winning $20,000.

Band members made the announcement Friday on their Facebook page.

Well Known Strangers will pay the Briggs & Stratton Big Backyard Stage June 30, and they are competing against just two other bands; Juice from Boston, MA, and Honey & the 45s from Chicago, IL. Performances begin at 5 p.m.

The band has only been together for about a year. To enter the Land the Big Gig contest, band members submitted a video of a live performance from last fall at Route 20 Outhouse.

John Kulas – bass guitar – and rhythm guitarist Joe Adamek are both graduates of St. Catherine’s High School, a story in The Journal Times reads. Rounding out the band are vocalist Betsy Ade, lead guitarist and banjo Theodore Koth, and drummer Roger Gower.

“We are more than excited,” Kulas told the newspaper. “I’ve been dizzy all day long.”
