Damage to an underground cable that supplies power to a number of residences and businesses caused 3,300 customers in west and southwest Racine and portions of Mount Pleasant, including the Indian Hills subdivision.

The outage was first discovered at 10:33 a.m. and by 11:10 a.m. or so, all but 40 customers had their power restored. By 1 p.m., all but one customer – the Kmart on Highway 31 – had power.

Brian Manthey, spokesperson for WE Energies, said crews found the area where the problem started but are not sure what caused the outage in the first place.

“There was nothing obvious,” he said. “Crews located a fault on the cable, and that line feeds into a transformer which is why so many customers were affected.”
