A 37-year-old Caledonia man was charged after he loaded a handgun during a heated argument with a relative at his home on Tuesday.
The man was charged by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office with disorderly conduct, use of a dangerous weapon, domestic abuse.
If convicted, the man faces up to 18 months in prison and/or fined up to $1,100.
According to the criminal complaint, Caledonia Police responded to a report of a man armed with a handgun at 5:39 p.m. Tuesday at a residence in the 5600 Bradford Ave. The man suffers from post traumatic stress disorder. When police arrived they drew their rifles. The man stepped out of the house with his hands raised in the air. When searched, the man was unarmed.
The man’s wife told police that she and a relative took her children to Jelly Stone Park earlier in the evening. When they got back, the man was angry because the children hadn’t done their chores before leaving. The man’s relative started to argue with him. The man’s wife heard the two arguing and they were getting louder.
When the man’s wife went back into the house, his relative told her that he had  a black handgun. The man’s wife told police he never saw the man with the gun and that he didn’t threaten anyone.
During the argument between the man and his relative, he told her he wanted to call the police and she told him not to because “something bad might happen,” that’s when the man took out the gun and loaded it.
“I’ll show you something bad,” he told her.
The man is being held at the Racine County Jail.
