A fun weekend is ahead in Racine County. One of the area’s biggest vehicles shows, church festivals, airplanes and parading pooches are all on the way. Come along with Real Racine.
Lots of wheels. The Racine Zoo’s Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show is back for its 21st year on Sunday. This show has kept on growing to become of the area’s biggest summer outdoor vehicle shows. Registration opens at 8 a.m. at the zoo’s south entrance (Goold Street and Michigan Boulevard). Registration is $15 per vehicle at the gate. Dash plaques to the first 200 entries. The show runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2131 N. Main St. About 400 vintage and custom cars, trucks and bikes are expected. More than 75 trophies in 23 different classes will be awarded starting at 3:30 p.m. There are also food and beverages and DJ entertainment all day. For the vets. Amvet Riders of Wisconsin invite everyone to an afternoon of fun and food from 12 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Ironwood Chophouse, 20715 Durand Ave., Union Grove. This annual fundraiser includes a gun and crossbow raffle, meat raffles, basket raffles and 50/50 raffles. Don’t miss the homemade pie auction. Proceeds will benefit area veterans programs, including the Homeless Veterans of Union Grove, Union Grove Recreation Department and the Zablocki V.A. Clinic spinal cord unit.
On parade. Leash up your dog for Waterford’s first-ever Pooch Parade from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Dog owners are invited to check in at Municipal Park next to the Fire and Rescue Station on 2nd Street starting at 8 a.m. Enter – or just watch – the Strut Your Mutt competition where prizes will be awarded for Best Dog/Owner Look-alike, Best Dog Outfit, Friendliest Dog and Judges’ Choice. Festivals in Caledonia. The weekend festival spotlight shifts to Caledonia where two, big church festivals are taking place. The St. Rita Family Festival is Friday through Sunday at St. Rita Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave. You can catch up 10 different bands over the three days plus a Friday fish fry and a Sunday chicken dinner. Hours are 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, 12 to 11 p.m. Saturday and 12 to 8 p.m. Sunday. The St. Louis Parish Festival runs Saturday and Sunday at St. Louis Catholic Church, 13207 Hwy. G. The weekend includes a classic car and tractor show, a rummage sales, games and auction and polka dancing. Hours are 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
Taking to the air. Bring your lawn chair or blanket for a fun day of flight at the Racine R/C Club Air Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the club’s flying grounds, 10530 Washington Ave. (Hwy. 20), Mount Pleasant. Radio-control aircraft enthusiasts will be flying scale-model aircraft of all types, including prop-driven and jets. There’s a $5 landing fee for pilots. Free for spectators.
