School suppliesHelping children start the school year off right, MH Imaging LLC, 6800 Washington Ave., will hand out 250 backpacks filled with school supplies to students on Thursday.

MH Imaging provides medical imaging services. The health care provider aims to help children in poverty access basic school supplies because one in five children don’t have the basic school supplies they need. In the Racine Unified School District, 65 percent of its 20,000 students live in poverty.

The bags contain pencils, notebooks, folders, and other essentials school supplies.

Mayor John Dickert, Mount Pleasant village president Jerry Garski, Racine Unified School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lolli Haws, University of Wisconsin-Parkside Assistant Chancellor of University Advancement John D. Jaraczewski, Racine County Circuit Court Judges David Paulson and Mark Nielsen and Miss Racine, Haley Schonter, will be at the event.

Officials from Malicki’s Piggly Wiggly will hand out granola bars to students.

Parents will need to park in the lot on the north side of the building during the event, which will be held from 5 to 7 p.m.
