It’s a great weekend to celebrate fall in Racine County. You can show the family an old-time harvest, see some cool cats, take in live theater, celebrate with beer or just spend a day in the country. Real Racine has these ideas.
Step back in time. See what harvest time used to be like at Fall Harvest Days this Friday through Sunday at the Racine County Fairgrounds, 19805 Durand Ave., Union Grove. It’s three days of displays and demonstrations of antique farm implements, tractors, trucks and gasoline engines. There is also a vintage tractor parade, flea market, children’s activities and food. This year’s show includes the Ford/Fordson Collectors Association show and meeting. Admission is $7 for adults. Children ages 12 and younger get in free. Show hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. all three days.
Brews and more. Great Lakes Brew Fest, the area’s biggest annual celebration of beer and the brewing arts, is this Saturday at the Racine Zoo, 2131 N. Main St. It includes a sampling of more than 400 beers, ciders and meads, including rare/limited releases and home brews. Event hours are 3 to 6:30 p.m. The Kilties Drum & Bugle Corps performs at 5:30 p.m. General admission is $50. Designated driver passes are $17. Don’t delay because Brew Fest often sells out. Curtain’s going up. Two new, local productions open this weekend – did we also mention they’re comedies? The Racine Theatre Guild, 2519 Northwestern Ave., presents “Lend Me A Tenor,” a farce about mistaken identity among opera singers. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday. “Tenor” is presented weekends through Oct. 2. Tickets at 262-633-4218 or www.racinetheatre.org The Over Our Head Players opens its 25th season on Friday with “Theatre Schmeatre,” an R-rated collection of original comedy sketches presented in the tradition of the Second City improv troupe. Each performance will include a different local musical act. “Theatre Schmeatre” shows are at the Sixth Street Theatre, 318 Sixth St. Performances are at 7 and 9 p.m. Fridays and at 5:30 and 8 p.m. Saturdays through Oct. 8. Cats and more cats. The Feline Groovy Cat Show brings two days of cat judging, exhibitors,, raffles, contests and adoptable cats to Memorial Hall, 72 Seventh St., Racine. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and $3 for youth, ages 8 and younger. Show hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Presented by the Cats Rule Cat Club. Crafts, cars and pies. The Village of Rochester invites everyone to the 20th Annual Day in the Country on Saturday. This family-oriented celebration starts with a 5k run at Case Eagle Park at 8:30 a.m. The arts and crafts fair in the downtown area runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Kids activities start at 10 a.m. The car show starts at 9 a.m. with trophies awarded at 2:30 p.m. The popular pie auction and sale gets under way at 11 a.m. Live music from Haulin’ Goats is from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Visit http://rochesterdic.weebly.com
