Transport van almost crashes into police officerAn officer with the Mount Pleasant Police Department was not injured after his parked police car was struck Wednesday by a transport van.

Mount Pleasant Police are searching for the driver after he left the scene of the crash.

Responding to an assault report at 10:23 p.m. in the 5300 block of 16th St., the van was parked along a curb on the east side of the road. But as the officer got out of his squad, he noticed the van was coming towards the squad from the rear and it veered towards the squad.

The officer grabbed the steering wheel and jumped back into the squad just before the van sideswiped the car. The driver of the van didn’t stop. He didn’t stop after the collision and continued driving eastbound on 16th Street. The driver’s side door was destroyed and the car had to be towed away from the scene.

The transport van is described as a dark sedan-type vehicle.
