Party time, everybody! Get ready for the area’s biggest one-day street festival. This weekend in Racine County you can also celebrate autumn, take an historic tour and learn all about rhinos. Come along with Real Racine.
Saturday is party day. Downtown Racine knows how to party! The 14th Annual Party on the Pavement is 12 to 7 p.m. Saturday presented by the Downtown Racine Corp. and local sponsors. Three major streets — Main, Sixth and Wisconsin — will be closed to make room for this big festival. There are five stages of live music and entertainment, two car shows, an arts and crafts fair, sports zone, great food options and things to do at every turn. Real Racine will have its blue tent near the Johnson Building on Main Street (across from Monument Square) with information, maps and your chance to win a prize basket. See you Downtown. Southside history. Racine’s Southside Historic District is the focus of the 41st Annual Tour of Historic Places from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday. All 12 of this year’s tour sites are around the corner from each other. Locations include six private homes, two bed-and-breakfast inns, a chapel and a one-of-a-kind statue. The day also include free tours of the Durand Mansion at 10th and Main a display about Racine’s automobile manufacturers at St. Luke’s Chapel and a talk at the Abe and Mary Lincoln statue. Advance tickets (available until 12 noon Saturday) are $15 at Preservation Racine’s website: www.preservationracine.org Tickets may be purchased on the day of the tour for $18 at the Racine Heritage Museum, 701 Main St.; The Blake House, 936 Main St.; or St. Luke’s Chapel and Library, 1328 College Ave.

Crafts and a maze. Two days of fall fun are on tap Saturday and Sunday at the Fall Craft Fair at Borzynski’s Farm and Floral Market, 11600 Washington Ave. (Hwy. 20), Mount Pleasant. Handmade items by local crafters for sale, hayrides, pumpkin picking and caramel apple making. The 8-acre corn maze (theme is USA) opens for the season. Music by Ken Stenzel on Sunday. Lots and lots of poets. The Bonk! Performance Series this month is participating with the 100,000 Poets for Change global movement. More than 20 of the region’s poets will share pieces on social justice issues this Saturday at Olympia Brown Unitarian Universalist Church, 625 College Ave. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Free admission.
Rhinos get their day. The Racine Zoo, 2131 N. Main St., celebrates World Rhino Day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. The Zoo is partnering with the Alliance of the Great Lakes Adopt-a-Beach program to help clean North Beach on Saturday morning. Beach cleanup volunteers will receive free admission on Saturday. During World Rhino Day, kids can enjoy a rhino-riffic scavenger hunt, a snacktivity, face painting and more. Of course, there’s a chance to see the zoo’s own rhinos, Timu and Kianga. Zoo admission is $8 adults, $7 seniors and $6 youth age 15 and younger. Racine County residents, with ID, save $1. Visit www.racinezoo.org
