The Caledonia Police Department will welcome its first K-9 unit soon and they want the citizens of Caledonia to help name the dog.

Officer Corey Radke is leaving in October to train with the K-9 unit, the department’s first.

“Our very first K-9 handler, Officer Radke, has made a special request: That you the community decide (on) the name for the first K-9 in our department’s history. By the way, he is a handsome K-9 and we think you’ll agree,” According to the Caledonia Police Department Facebook page.

The department sold t-shirts, We Back The Badge signs and held fundraisers to pay for the dog, said Lt. Gary Larsen, of the Caledonia Police Department.

“It was very touching to see this community come together to make this happen and I think this motivated the officers even more to see the community so supportive,” he said. “We didn’t have any doubt that they love dogs in this community, but the support was just overwhelming.”

Radke chose three names: Thor, Zeus or Louie. But they want the community to make the final decision by taking a survey.
