Caledonia police say a 36-year-old man admitted he was wrong for leading officers on a high-speed chase when they tried to pull him over for racing on his motorcycle.
Andrew Busarow, of Racine, was charged Thursday in Racine County Circuit Court with one felony count of trying to flee a police officer. If convicted, he faces up to 3-1/2 years in prison and/or up to $10,000 in fines. Because Busarow has previous convictions, he could get extra time tacked onto any sentence he might receive.
According to the criminal complaint, officers on patrol Aug. 27 observed two motorcycles going west on 6-Mile Road at a high rate of speed. When police attempted a traffic stop, both drivers accelerated, but one eventually pulled over while the other – later identified as Busarow – kept going.
Officers say Busarow turned south on River Road and was stopped just south of the intersection. When he spoke to police, he admitted to racing the other motorcycle and that he knew he messed up. Busarow also said he knew he was probably going back to prison.
He remains in the Racine County Jail on $2,500 cash bond and will next be in court Oct. 5 for his preliminary hearing.
