Racine police say a 25-year-old man broke a window of a woman’s home and was seen by a neighbor but reassured that person that he wasn’t doing anything wrong.

David Vargas, of Racine, was charged Friday in Racine County Circuit Court with one misdemeanor count each of criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct. If convicted, he faces up to a year in jail and/or up to $11,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, police were called Monday to a home where a woman said she heard glass breaking and thumping on her porch. When officers talked to her neighbor, they said they saw Vargas walk up to the woman’s home, then heard glass breaking and banging noises.

Police say the neighbor said that when Vargas was walking away, he said, “It ain’t like that, don’t worry about it.”

Vargas was assigned a $100 cash bond Friday and was still in the Racine County Jail as of Friday evening. He will next be in court Nov. 17 for a pre-trial conference.
