Mount Pleasant police say a 19-year-old man was high on heroin when he stole his father’s car and later had to be revived with Narcan.
David Hemer, of Union Grove, was charged Monday in Racine County Circuit Court with one felony count each of marijuana possession and bail jumping as well as one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted, he faces up to 9-1/2 years in prison and/or up to $20,500 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called Friday to Porcaro Ford for a report from a man who said his son, David Hemer, was high on heroin and had taken his car. Officers had the man call Hemer so they could locate him.
Police say Hemer answered but was speaking so slowly they could barely understand him. Finally, he indicated he was at Burger King, 5400 Durand Avenue, and was advised to stay there. When officers and the man arrived, Hemer was taken into custody, and his vehicle was searched.
Rescue was called to the scene because Hemer was sweating and slouched over. He was administered Narcan and transported Ascension All Saints for medical clearance, the complaint reads.
Officers say they found a needle and a lighter as well as other items used for smoking heroin, and a plastic baggie with marijuana inside a cigarette pack tucked into the side pocket of the car.
Hemer remains in the Racine County Jail on a $1,500 cash bond, and he will next be in court Nov. 16 for his preliminary hearing.
