Magnum.media, the parent company of radio station WRJN, will no longer cover local prep sports as part of it broadcast coverage plan, according to a story by the Journal Times.

The reason: the coverage WRJN provided was dependent on covering teams with the most contentious match-ups and that led to inconsistent coverage, David Magnum told the Journal Times.

“The WRJN approach to high school sports had to feature match-ups of multiple teams,’’ Magnum wrote in an email to the Journal Times. “The plus side of this scheduling is that a lot of teams received coverage. The down side is that fans of a particular school didn’t get to hear their team consistently.”

Magnum, which is based in Tomah, bought WRJN from Janesville-based Bliss Communications in 2014 along with four other stations.

But don’t think the door is entirely closed on radio coverage for Racine’s local prep sports.

“We’re very excited about the new FM signals we recently added to WRJN at 98.1 in Kenosha and 99.9 in Racine, so if there is an area school with a sufficient number of sponsors that would like the opportunity to have WRJN become the exclusive radio voice of their team, we’d be all ears!’’
