The Racine Family YMCA bought the tower, which is attached to the main facility, back from Lake Investments LLC for $108,000.

Jim Schimanski owns Lake Investments LLC.

The YMCA sold that portion of the building to Lake Investments several years ago.

Ahmad Qawi, chief operations officer and Lakefront Center director, said the Board of Directors may want to renovate the building to sell it.

“It’s always been the plan to do this,” Qawi said. “Over the years we’ve had developers come and talk to us about different ideas. But we’re not seriously contemplating anything right now. We’re leaving our options open.”

Even if the downtown location is sold, the Racine Family YMCA is still committed to having a location near downtown Racine.

“We always want to keep a strong presence in downtown, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it would be in this building,” Qawi said. “Our intention — as it was spelled out in the 2012 strategic plan — If the opportunity came about we could feasibly do, then we could sell the property. But would have to be in control of building and land first.

“This is the first step in that process.”
