A woman is accused of committing food stamp fraud, and receiving $26,302 in benefits to which she was not entitled.

Tijuana S. Starks, 42, now of Racine and formerly of Mount Pleasant, is charged with two counts of food stamp fraud, for misstating facts in an application and knowingly failing to report a change in income.

According to court records, Starks applied for Food Shares in 2010, and continued to file re-applications and renewals claiming her household consisted of her and her two sons. She listed her marital status as “separated” and never listed her husband as a household member or as having an income, the complaint states.

A fraud investigator learned in January 2016 that Starks’ husband had lived with the family for all but about six months of the period for which she had received benefits, and that he was employed at CNH during the entire time.

Records from the Mount Pleasant Police Department showed contact with Starks and her husband, with both giving the same address.
