Surrounded by her family, Doris Mae Lowe, age 89, passed away peacefully Monday, January 2, 2017, at her residence.  Doris was born in Racine, December 27, 1927, daughter of the late Peter and Margaret (Nee: Higgie) Verbeten. 

Doris graduated from St. Catherine’s High School, “Class of 1947”. She attended Dominican College and had worked at Western Publishing Co and Wisconsin Gas and Electric Co. On April 18, 1953 at St. Edward’s Rectory, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, David K. Lowe.  Doris was a longtime member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church, the Breakfast Club, was a 3rd Order St. Augustinian, and a cooperator of the Prelature of Opus Dei.  She enjoyed family events especially family dinners, playing cards with her friends, and spending time with her grandchildren.   She will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her husband of 63 years, David; 4 children, David C. Lowe of Racine, Mary Patricia “Patti” (Randy) Weix of Hartford, James S. (Kim) Lowe of Middleton, Thomas J. Lowe of Phoenix, AZ; 3 grandchildren, Ashley Nicole (Ben) Dunk, Christian E. Matavka,  Abigail Kinsey Lowe; great-grandchildren, Miles Dunk and Athena Matavka;  sisters, Jean Redford and  Patricia  Consiglero both of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her newborn son, James Allen; brother, Donald (Rose) and sister Elaine.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave. with Reverend Rich O’Leary officiating.  Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Monday at the funeral home 4-6 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church, 10:30 a.m. until time of Mass.  Memorials to the Petawa Residence, 1331 N. Astor St.  Milwaukee, WI  53202-2823,  Holy Hill National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians, 1525 Carmel Road Hubertus, WI 53033, or St. Rita’s Catholic church have been suggested.
