An Elmwood Park man was arrested for his  sixth drunken driving offense early Tuesday morning, after an officer saw his vehicle blocking traffic on Memorial Drive.

An officer noticed a vehicle blocking two lanes of traffic about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, and believed the driver was exiting a driveway. But when the officer got a closer look at the vehicle, he saw damage to the truck’s front end, and went to investigate.

According to the criminal complaint, the officer drove to where the truck had been blocking traffic and saw tracks that led to a snowbank and a utility pole. There was a light layer of snow on the street, and only one set of tracks in it.

The officer found the truck in the 1000 block of Lathrop Avenue and stopped it. Earl Knuckles was driving, the officer reported, and had slow and slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, smelled of alcohol, and had an open container on the floorboard.

Knuckles was unable to walk or stand without assistance, and was taken to the hospital, where police determined he was too impaired to perform field sobriety tests.

A blood sample was taken and sent to the Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene for analysis.
