A Racine man was charged after he strangled his girlfriend because she denied his sexual advances Thursday.

A 35-year-old man sent his girlfriend to the hospital seeking treatment for injuries sustained during strangulation, according to criminal complaints.

At St. Catherine’s Hospital in Kenosha, the victim told Racine Police that she awoke to him pulling her pants off around 1:30 a.m., according to the complaint.

After her denial, a verbal argument ensued developing into an attack when he started choking her causing her to fear: “She would die,” according to the complaint.

She fought him off, calmed him down, then drove him to her mother’s house.

The man is charged with strangulation, misdemeanor battery, and disorderly conduct, all with domestic abuse enhancers. He is being held in the Racine County Jail on a bond of $5,000, and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 26.
