A teenager arrested earlier in the month for gun possession made his first appearance before a court official Thursday.
The teenager, 16, was part of a group of six other people that attempted to incite a fight on Jan. 8. When police arrested him he had a .22 caliber pistol and over 5 grams of marijuana on his person.
The teenager and the others were initially caught that night outside a home on the 900 block of 10th Street by the resident as they tried to goad her nephews out of the home to fight. The witness told police she saw one of them holding a pistol during the encounter.
The group scattered, and police responding to the call stopped a group of three Hispanic males. Upon questioning, police say the males admitted to being outside the house on 10th street. The teenager also admitted to having the pistol.
Police arrested him and brought him to the juvenile detention center. Currently, he is being charged by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office with two misdemeanors: possession of a dangerous weapon as a minor and possession of marijuana. He’s held on a $5000 bond.
