After leading police on a high-speed car chase in early January, a Racine man has been arrested.

Racine Police pulled over a silver Ford Focus on Jan. 13 knowing it was registered to a woman that has a child with Walter J. Wilson Jr., who had a warrant for his arrest at the time.

The driver of the vehicle matched a description for Wilson, but the officer was unable to positively identify the suspect.

During the stop, the driver fled the scene. Officers pursued the suspect west down 6th Street until Memorial Drive, at times reaching speeds of 75 miles per hour. Police ended the chase in concern for public safety.

The vehicle’s owner told police she loaned the car to Wilson that day, and later she received a call telling her it was at the Doubletree Hotel.

Security camera footage from the hotel showed Wilson pacing the lobby and peering out windows.

He’s being held on a $5,000 bond, and is charged with attempting to elude a traffic officer and recklessly endangering safety.
