A Racine man was arrested Wednesday after perpetrating check fraud at Educators Credit Union, stealing over $5,000.
From Dec. 18 to Dec. 24, 2015, Malcolm J. Sanders went to the credit union nine times between locations in Sturtevant and on Rapids Drive in Racine and used stolen checks from two different people to collect sums between $700 and $850.
Sanders had a woman enter the bank and cash the fraudulent checks for him.
The woman told police she had no idea a fraud was being committed. She just thought she was cashing the checks for Malcolm Sanders because his girlfriend lost her identification.
Sanders’ fingerprint was discovered on one of the checks.
He is charged with eight felony counts of uttering a forgery and misappropriation of identifying information, and one count of felony fraud against a financial institution.
