Honorable John S. “Jack” Jude, age 71, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday at his residence. John was born in Racine, December 22, 1945, son of the late James M. and Arleen L. (Nee: Barber) Jude.
Jack attended St. Edward Elementary School. Furthering his education he graduated from St. Francis de Sales Seminary High School, college, and post-graduate school. In 1977 he graduated from Marquette Law School. On December 28, 1968 at St. Rose Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Margaret “Peggy” L. Collins. For many years, he was employed as a juvenile probation officer, and was a private practice attorney in Civil and Family Law from 1977-2004. Lastly, he served the Racine community as Racine Circuit Judge from 2004-2016.
Actively involved in the community Jack volunteered and served as president on several boards including: Center for Community Concerns, Family Service of Racine, Siena Retreat Center, United Way of Racine, and co-chaired the task force that preceded United Way’s leadership in creating HALO in 2003-2004. Jack volunteered for service in the Dominican Republic, co-chaired (along with his wife Peggy) with the Literacy Council, volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America, was involved with the NAACP, was a RASA Youth Soccer Coach, a director of Project Acceptance (which became Volunteer Center of Racine County)- a program for literacy in jails, and was a forty-year member of spiritual reflection group with great friends.
He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Peggy; his children, Jordan (Veronica) Jude, Talferd (Brigid) Jude, Meaghan (Chris) Kaplan, Caitlin Jude, Michael (Kerry) Jude; his grandchildren, Jack and Lucia Jude, Seamus Patrick and Colin Jude, Devin and Declan Kaplan, Alice Jude; brothers and sister, James (Shari) Jude, Mary (Steve) Dodds, Paul (Angela) Jude, Kevin (Sally) Jude; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Susie (Sam) Romano; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends in the greater community of Racine. In addition to his parents, Jack was also preceded in death by his sister, Sue Simanek.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 6 p.m. at Siena Center Chapel, 5635 Erie Street. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at Siena Center Chapel from 3 p.m. until time of Mass at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Patrick Catholic Church, Siena Center Retreat Center, Women’s Resource Center, HALO, John XXIII Educational Center or one’s favorite local charity have been suggested.
