An Illinois man was arrested Sunday for robbing a Tri-City Bank, 3900 Erie Street.

Around 3:45 p.m., Jason A. Crawford, 34, walked up to the bank counter located in a Piggly Wiggly and handed the teller a note saying he was armed and demanding money.

Crawford was pulled over two blocks away from the grocery store on the 4000 Block of Main Street.

When police searched the 2004 Volkswagon, Crawford was driving, they found a paper bag containing money, a bag of capped needles, a black folding knife and a 9 mm Sig-Sauer with multiple magazines. When officers searched the area where he was stopped they found a bag containing two black jackets, black shoes and a small plastic bag with money covered in red dye.

Crawford is being charged with robbery of a financial institution.
