A new play, great food, home improvement ideas and an annual party are all coming up in Racine County this weekend. Real Racine has some suggestions.

Opening at RTG. The audience will see a play written before its eyes with “That Darn Plot” presented by the Racine Theatre Guild, 2519 Northwestern Ave. In this heartfelt comedy, playwright Mark W. Transom is tasked with writing a play in one night. Soon, the line between the writer’s life and the story being written becomes blurred. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday. “That Darn Plot” runs on weekends through March 12. Tickets at 262-633-4218 or

A delicious evening. Plan to come hungry to the 2nd Annual Taste of Burlington starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Veterans Terrace, 589 Milwaukee Ave. This year’s theme is a culinary journey through Spain with a 5-course dinner prepared by the area’s top chefs. There is also live music from D’Arez all evening. Tickets are $125 per person. Presented by the Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce. Reservations at 262-763-6044.

Home improvements. The 33rd Racine Home Expo has ideas for inside and outside your home. This year’s show at Festival Hall, 5 Fifth St., features more than 80 exhibitors, workshops and drawings. Show hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $3 for ages 18 and older.

Time for a party. Take shuttle buses, drink special and lots of beads and you get Mardi-Crawl in Downtown Racine. A $3 wristband takes you among 15 participating nightspots starting at 9 p.m. Saturday. Collect stamps at six locations during the evening to be entered in the grand prize drawing at the Ivanhoe Pub & Eatery next Tuesday (Mardi Gras).

Poetry and music. Bonk! Performance Series presents one more free event at the Racine Arts Council’s ArtSpace Gallery, 316 Sixth St., this Saturday. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; performances start at 6 p.m. This month features poet Kenzie Allen, author Gint Aras and alternative soul musician Koku Gonza.

Something shiny. The Racine Numismatic Society’s Coin and Collectibles Show features a look at a fascinating, historical hobby. This year’s show is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Roma Lodge, 7130 Spring St. Free admission.
