A sweet chocolate event, the Jazz Age, a last chance and a flock of fundraisers are set for Racine County this weekend. Real Racine has lots of great ideas for you and your family.
Yum! Chocolate! Burlington lives up to its Chocolate City nickname this Saturday by hosting the Chocolate Extravaganza at Burlington High School, 400 McCanna Parkway. Entrants in this chocolate cooking competition will try to win prizes in cake/pie/torte, bars/cookies, candy/miscellaneous and cupcakes categories. Entries must arrive between 8 and 9:30 a.m.; the judging starts at 10:30 a.m. The entry fee is $5 to adults and $2 for children. The competition is presented by the Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce and Town Bank. Also at the high school from 9 a.m.to 3 p.m. is the Annual Home and Garden Show featuring more than 80 exhibitors. Admission is $2 for adults; free for youth age 15 and younger. Reliving the Jazz Age. Bix would be proud! Bix Beiderbecke, a legendary jazz cornet player from the 1920s is honored at the annual Tribute to Bix Fest on Thursday through Sunday at the Racine Architect Hotel, 7111 Washington Ave., Mount Pleasant. Music and fun. Three bands are on tap for the Veterans Outreach Benefit Concert at Route 20, 14001 Washington Ave., Yorkville. The party starts at 8 a.m. Friday with music by Hillbilly Casino, The Krank Daddies and The Slurs. General admission is $15; VIP is $45. Evening for a cause. The Faith, Hope and Love program presents the “Be a Hero to a Kid” benefit from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Fountain Banquet Hall, 8505 Durand Ave., Sturtevant. The evening includes appetizers, wine and beer tasting, raffle, silent auction and music by the Kal Bergendahl Project. Admission is $20 in advance; $30 at the door. The Roaring ‘20s. Experience “Art in the Speakeasy” at the Racine Business Center, 1405 16th St., Racine, from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday. This vintage building will be decked out as a Prohibition-era speakeasy. Visitors will enjoy wine, beer, hors d’oeuvres, an art auction and music by guitarist Dave Braun and the band Night Wing. Last chance for “Plot” Time is running out to catch the Racine Theatre Guild’s production of “That Darn Plot.” In this very clever comedy, the audience will see a play written and come to life before their eyes.
