Emerson Electric Co., which owns InSinkErator, bought an 11.6 acre parcel situated on Globe Drive from Chicago-based Mount Pleasant Retail LLC for $2.7 million.

InSinkErator plans to construct a $24 million 85,000 square-foot building for its headquarters and lab in Mount Pleasant.

The company makes food waste disposers for home and commercial use. The company employs 1,000 people in southeast Wisconsin and plans to move 170 people from its existing headquarters in Racine to the new site, which will be on Highway 20 and Industrial Drive in Mount Pleasant, according to a press release.

The expansion is necessary due to demand. Once the new building is constructed, the company plans to reconfigure their building at 4700 21st Street in Racine and add production capacity at that facility.

The company anticipates completion of the building in the fourth quarter of 2018.
