Another great spring weekend is shaping up for Racine County. The weekend includes a rockin’ fundraiser, a new comedy play, a classic car and motorcycle show and fun at the zoo. Come along with Real Racine.
Rockin’ the house. Memorial Hall, 72 Seventh St., will be jumping! See seven band on two stages for one ticket at the 8th Annual Rock for Vets. The party starts at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. There are also raffles (including baseball suite tickets), gift baskets and 50/50. Admission is $15 at the door. Veterans (with ID) get in for $12. Head to the Foxhole Lounge at the Racine Veterans Center, 820 Main St. for the After Party with the Full Flavor Band. The party there starts at 11 p.m. No cover – donations welcome. New on Sixth Street. Over Our Head Players present a new comedy, “Bob: A Life in Five Acts”, starting Friday at the Sixth Street Theatre, 318 Sixth St. The play’s hero, Bob, lives a five-act life that follows a rags-to-riches, fame-to-fall, love-of-living-life tale. “Bob” can be seen weekends through May 7. A Zoo Saturday. It’s not just ANY Saturday, it’s a Zooriffic Saturday at the Racine Zoo, 2131 N. Main St. Everyone is invited to participate in an Earth Day clean up of adjacent Zoo Beach from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Beach clean up volunteers will get free zoo admission that day. Also, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, the zoo staff will make special wildlife conservation presentations. More at www.racinezoo.org
Cars and bikes. See some of the area’s best classic car and motorcycles on Sunday at the Wheels Against Child Abuse Car and Bike Show. The show runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Route 20, 14001 Washington Ave. (Hwy. 20), Yorkville. Show registration is $10 for cars and and $5 for motorcycles. Free for spectators. There are also kids activities, food, a Bloody Mary bar and raffles. The show benefits Guardians of the Children – Belle Chapter.
For the birds. See and learn about exotic birds at the annual Greater Racine Avicultural Society Bird Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Caledonia-Mount Pleasant Park, 9614 Northwestern Ave., Franksville. The event includes educational seminars and vendors selling caged birds, food and pet supplies. Admission is $3 for adults; free for kids age 12 and younger.
