It’s Mother’s Day weekend. Here in Racine County, there are musical theater songs, a concert and a unique brunch setting. Come along with Real Racine.
Curtain’s going up. A big cast (42 people), big music and big performances. The Racine Theatre Guild’s presentation of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Theatre Guild stage, 2519 Northwestern Ave. This Broadway hit follows the classic Bible story about Joseph’s coat of many colors and tells it through a blend of pop, country and rock songs. “Joseph” is being presented on weekends. Admission is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and $15 for students. Discounted tickets are available for May 21 and 25. Demand for tickets has prompted additional performances on June 2 and 3. Running wild. Take a Saturday morning run at the Racine Zoo, 2131 N. Main St. The Wild 5k Run/Walk supports the zoo’s animals. Warm-ups start at 7:30 a.m. and the race gets underway at 8 a.m. along Lake Michigan and through the Zoo grounds. Advance registration (through Friday) is $35 for adults and $25 for children. Special brunch in a special place. Bring Mom to a Mother’s Day Brunch at the Racine Zoo from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday. A night of song. Three of the area’s best-known singer/songwriters join the Choral Arts Society of Southeastern Wisconsin for a Saturday night performance. Jeff Ward, Mark Paffrath and Zachary Scot Johnson will perform a potpourri of music for the CAS 30th season finale. ‘Blonde’ continues. Be sure to catch The Haylofters’ production of “Legally Blonde – the Musical” continuing this weekend at the Malt House Theatre, 109 N. Main St., Burlington. The show, based on the popular motion picture, is a delightful presentation about a heroine who tackles stereotypes and snobbery to pursue her dreams.
