Baklava, gyros and other delights. Some of the best festival food around plus family fun is at the 52nd Annual Greek Festival at Kimissis Greek Orthodox Church, 1335 S. Green Bay Road. The event gets underway with a gyros lunch served from 12 to 2 p.m. Friday. Festival hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, 12 to 10 p.m. Saturday and 12 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Visit the farm. You can bring the family to a working dairy farm and enjoy a great breakfast on Saturday morning. Racine County Breakfast on the Farm is 7 to 11 a.m. at the Bird Family Farm, 22502 Washington Ave., Kansasville. Breakfast is just $6 and includes scrambled eggs, sausage, milk and ice cream. Visitors can see farm equipment and livestock, play games and enjoy down home music. Presented by the Racine County Dairy Producers.
Music for a cause. The 9th Annual Dan Jam Music Festival is a family reunion and arts celebration wrapped into one big package. As always, Dan Jam features a variety of music, including folk, jazz, fusion and hip-hop. It runs from 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Johnson Park Pavilion, 6200 Northwestern Ave. Admission is $10 ($8 with two non-perishable food items) and includes four food tickets and a drink ticket. Proceeds will benefit the Racine Literacy Council and the Racine County Food Bank.
Make it a shopping day. Parts of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside campus, 900 Wood Road, Somers, will turn into a marketplace from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Summer Arts and Crafts Festival. This 27th annual event features more than 250 artisans from throughout the Midwest offering handmade jewelry, ceramics, yard art, soaps, photography and quilting. Free admission and shuttles from the UW-Parkside parking lots.
On land and water. At this year’s Pedal, Paddle and Play, you can bicycle, canoe/kayak or do both! Choose from long, medium or short routes in Burlington, Rochester and Waterford. The routes include western Racine County bicycle trails and the Fox River. Registration is $10; free for children age 7 and younger. It gets starts at 10 a.m. Saturday. An Armenian party. St. Hagop Armenian Church invites you to its annual picnic from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Park Pavilion, 6200 Northwestern Ave. This one-day celebration of love and gratitude, known as a “Madagh,” features such delicacies as shish-kebob, sarma (stuffed grapes), penelee (cheese puffs) and khurabia (butter cookies). There are also kids games, dancing and a raffle. Free admission.
