A Racine man was charged Monday for shooting a gun June 17 outside of the American Legion at 1234 Douglas Ave.

Jeremy Perkins, 28, was identified by police via surveillance footage of the shooting, according to a criminal complaint by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office.

He fought with a group of people in the parking and then shooting at a car as it drove away. The shells found at the crime scene were .45 caliber shells. Perkins said he had already traded the .45 caliber pistol for the .40 caliber before police arrested him. As a felon, Perkin is not legally allowed to have a firearm.

He admitted to the crime and took police to his apartment where they found a .40 caliber handgun.

He is charged with two counts possession of a firearm by a felon, two counts of first degree recklessly endangering safety, and possession of marijuana because he had more than eight grams on his person when police picked him up.
