Three Milwaukee residents were arrested after taking $1,000 in clothing at 3:05 p.m. Thursday from Kohl’s Department Store, 5500 Washington Ave. They also led police on a short car chase that ended about a block away from the store.

Jasmine Williams, 22, Ebone Jackson, 22, and Kenyuanna Gunby, 17, face charges of retail theft, fleeing and eluding an officer, and bail jumping.

Mount Pleasant Police tried to stop two of the three suspects trying to take off with clothing from Kohl’s Department store, but the pair took off in a car being driven by a third person. Officers followed the car out of the parking lot and onto Newman Road at Highway 31.

“Three squad cars immediately went behind the suspect vehicle, and activated their emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to get the suspect vehicle to stop,” according to the press release.

Weaving in and out of traffic for about a block, police were able to catch up with the car at Highway 31 and Highway 20 because of traffic congestion. During the arrest, one of the officers injured his hand while taking the driver into custody.

Two of the women were out on bail for retail theft and the other had two active warrants for their arrest.

“During the arrest officers discovered additional new clothing items inside the vehicle, which were believed to be stolen from a different business,” according to the press release.

The owner of the items and the business the clothes were taken from have not been identified.

The three suspects are being held at the Racine County Jail.
