Foxconn Technology Group will likely build their next plant, which will bring thousands of jobs and billions of dollars of investment to the region, in Mount Pleasant and Sturtevant, according to media reports.
A Taiwanese multinational electronics contract manufacturing company, Foxconn is based in New Taipei City, Taiwan. The company makes electronics for a number of companies, including Apple and Nintendo.
State Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester), Senate President Roger Roth (R-Appleton), Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele, and Gov. Scott Walker are traveling to the White House. President Donald Trump is expected to make the announcement at 4 p.m., according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
According to a story by Bloomberg Politics:
The factory will open in the home district of House Speaker Paul Ryan, a Wisconsin Republican, who personally lobbied Trump and White House chief of staff Reince Priebus to help secure the plant. It’s expected to employ about 3,000 people at first and, after an initial $10 billion investment, the facility is scheduled to expand over a 2 1/2-year period, according to a person familiar with the plans who requested anonymity to discuss the announcement before it was made.
Sources close to the project told Racine County Eye that officials from Foxconn toured Caledonia, Mount Pleasant and Sturtevant visited the area in April and that some property owners have already been made offers.
Municipal leaders in Sturtevant and Mount Pleasant have heard that Foxconn was interested in the property, but did not have any specifics on the project.
“We’ve heard that they have been interested, but we don’t know any details about their final decision. We just don’t have any details,” a source said.
According to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Trump is expected to make the announcement at the White House at 4 p.m.
