Cars, cars, cars at the Racine Zoo this Sunday. This weekend in Racine County, you’ll also find family fun, musical performances, a day with nature and a fiesta. Come along with us at Real Racine.
A really big show. The Racine Zoo’s Car, Truck and Bike Show has grown into one of the area’s largest car show events with about 400 entries each year. The 22nd annual show runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday on the zoo grounds, 2131 N. Main St. More than 75 trophies will be awarded over 10 categories, including best of show for cars, trucks and motorcycles. There’s DC music all day, food, prizes and gifts. Show registration is $15 per vehicle. Entries may arrive starting at 8 a.m. at the corner of Goold Street and Michigan Boulevard. Fiesta means party! La Fiesta Mexicana returns from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday at Caledonia-Mount Pleasant Memorial Park, 9614 Hwy. K, Franksville. The day features food and beverages, live Tejano and Mexican music, a community expo, kids activities and a raffle. Advance admission for adults is $5. Admission at the gate is $8 adults, $5 children ages 6 through 12. Children ages 5 and younger get in free. Presented by the Urban League of Racine and Kenosha. For tickets, call 262-652-2111.
Celebrate hip-hop. Origins of Hip-Hop 6 presents a showcase of hip-hop culture with DJs, break dancing, graffiti and music. It runs from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Smoke’d on the Water, 3 Fifth St. Free admission; donations welcome. Presented by Family Power Music.
For the family. Enjoy a family fun festival for a cause — Fam Fest. This new event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Racine County Fairgrounds Activity Building, 19805 Durand Ave., Union Grove. The day includes a pig roast, silent auction, animal petting pen and silent auction. Win prizes in the cornhole/baggo tournament ($15 entry fee). Admission is $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 7 to 13. Children ages 6 and younger admitted free. Fam Fest benefits Girls Inc. of Racine and Safe Haven of Racine.
Back to nature. The folks at River Bend Nature Center (RBNC) don’t think that kids should have ALL the fun this summer. They’re presenting a Grown-Up Day Camp at RBNC, 3600 N. Green Bay Road, Caledonia, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. Open to adults (age 21 and older), it lets campers choose their own adventures like kayaking, archery, team adventure challenges and nature walks. It includes a gourmet lunch. Tying it up. The Music & More Concert Series concludes the 2017 season with a special evening concert at 7 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, 716 College Ave., Racine. Performers include violinist Andrea Nitz, the Cecilia Trio and the Lynda Schlitz Ensemble. Admission is $10. Proceeds from this evening and the summer series will go to Heath Care Network, Faith, Hope & Love and Our Harmony Club.
