A world where everyone has a decent place to live. That is the vision of Racine’s Habitat for Humanity. They are a part of a global effort to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman, and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.
As a non-profit housing organization, Racine’s Habitat for Humanity looks to the community for support. That is why a group of dedicated volunteers have put together the first ever “Run For Shelter” 5K, which will be held on Saturday September 30th, starting at 9 a.m. at Island Park in Racine.
The Run for Shelter will benefit Racine Habitat for Humanity and is in celebration of World Habitat Day on October 2nd with 100% of the proceeds going towards Habitat’s Local Build Program.

The Run for Shelter 5K starts at Island Park and follows the path of the Root River. The trail includes educational signposts that describe the role the river played in the development of Racine. It offers an opportunity to see Racine as it cannot be seen from a moving vehicle, to identify plants and trees native to the region and to appreciate the ecology of the Root River system. Interestingly, over 20 of the houses that Racine Habitat for Humanity has built, are within three miles of the race course!
Racine Habitat for Humanity is a 501-(c)3 charitable organization. If you have any questions about the race, sponsorships, or volunteering for the event, please feel free to contact us.
