Four mayoral election forums will be held over the next several weeks for people to learn more about the six mayoral candidates running for office.
The candidates running for election are: Wally Rendon, Sandy Weidner, Melvin Hargrove, Cory Mason, Austin Rodriguez, and Fabian Maldonado. The primary election will be held Sept. 19. The top two people with the most votes will then be on the ballot for the special election on Oct. 17.
The special election was prompted by former Racine Mayor John Dickert announcing his resignation in March. He turned over the reigns to Common Council President Dennis Wiser in July. Wiser will serve as the interim Mayor until a new mayor is chosen in the special election. Dickert left the job to become the president and chief administrative officer of the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Cities Initiative.
The NAACP and Collective Community Groups is sponsoring the forums.
