Lloyd C. Meier, 92, passed away on Monday at his residence surrounded by his family.  Lloyd was born on August 31, 1925 in Racine, the son of the late Arthur and Nellie (Nee:  Hanson) Meier.  He was a graduate of William Horlick High School “Class of 1943”.

Lloyd proudly served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II.  He received a degree in business administration from Spencerian College of Milwaukee in 1949, delivering the invocation as class president.  He was united in marriage to Frances Polach on September 17, 1949 at St. John Nepomuk Church, where he has been a lifetime member.  He served St. John Nepomuk Church as a trustee/treasurer, parish council member, server, lector, sacristan, Eucharistic minister, and member of both the voice and bell choir.  Lloyd served as President of the Village of Wind Point from 1977-1987 and was a past member of the Somerset Club and the Racine Country Club.

Lloyd began his career at Modine Manufacturing Company, rising to Assistant Treasurer while operating his own tax/accounting practice.  He joined L. W. VanNatta & Company, now Clifton Larson Allen, as tax manager rising to tax partner, retiring in 1991.

Lloyd was a past member and president of the Wisconsin Institute of CPAs, Racine-Kenosha Estate Planning Council, and the Racine-Kenosha National Association of Accountants.  Lloyd conducted numerous tax workshops and served as an expert tax witness.

He actively served the Racine community on numerous boards including: The Racine Community Foundation, Boy Scouts, St. Catherine’s High School, Nelson Electric, Diamond Transportation, Racine County Economic Development Committee, Racine Railroad, Bane Nelson, Midland Container, the Gateway Technical Institute Foundation, Racine Taxpayers Association, Spanish Center, YMCA, Family Service, Racine Columbus Commission and many others.

Lloyd was an avid runner whose ultimate goal to run the Boston Marathon was accomplished in 1988 at the age of 62.  In addition to running, Lloyd enjoyed time in his garden.

He is survived by Frances, his wife of 67 years; his children, Jeanne (Jerry) Matalik, Julie (Jim) Arens, Mary (Bill) Hills, John (Anna) Meier, Ann (Wayne) Wiedenbeck;  14 Grandchildren; 15 Great – Grandchildren; sister, Laverne Poplawski; sister-in-law Pat Meier; brother-in-law Carl (Laura) Polach; many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Bruce Meier, brother Donald Meier, and his identical twin brother Clayton Meier.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church on Friday at 11:30 a.m. with Reverend Steve Varghese officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet Friday at the church from 9 a.m. until 11:15 a.m.  Private entombment will be held at Holy Cross Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Memorials to St. John Nepomuk Church, St. Catherine’s High School or a charity of your choice have been suggested.
